There’s a lot. (but, Idk who “They” are)
above/below: I don’t need to tell you how these end. See #1 on list.
In no particular order:
1. Lions are massive bullies. They kill any/all other predators. Even those who don’t directly compete with them. ie: cheetah, caracal, serval
2. Mane’s are not designed to protect a lions throat during fights.
3. Lions are their own worst enemy. Their whole social structure encompasses ways to protect eachother from rival, usually morading male lions.
4. Male lions hunt!!! They just do it differently–ie: at night when their mane isn’t an impediment & in thick cover.
5. If pride leaders don’t kick their sons out early enough, they will kill their mothers next litter. aka: their siblings.
6. Lions actually scavenge MORE than hyenas do.
7. That in order to become a pride “leader” male lions must first kill all of the previous male’s cubs under a year old.
8. Lions are genuinely intimidated by hyenas (in sufficient numbers) and in some regions, are killed by them. Even males.
9. One in 3 lions will leave its pride to never return. Basically, the idea of lions all living together in big families is a very inaccurate one.
10. Male lions live a MUCH shorter lifespan than females. Largely, because they kill eachother. Only 13% of male cubs make it to maturity. (past their nomadic phase)
11. Big coalitions of lions arent necessarily “more successful” in terms of producing offspring to maturity. Why? Because they become overly focused on obtaining MORE territory & prides …inevitably becoming spread too thin & can’t adequately protect their cubs. Sometimes, they even mate with so many lionesses from their numerous prides that they forget and kill their cubs when first introduced. Whoops!
